Medication-Assisted Treatment at BAART Turk St

Our Turk St. facility offers MAT in the form of methadone or buprenorphine (Suboxone®) to patients who are taking high doses of opioids, both prescription or illicit. There are also detox services available on-site to help patients get through a more rapid and rigorous form of treatment. However, MAT has been proven to be the most stable and long-lasting form of opioid use disorder management and has helped thousands of people with addiction find recovery. While there are many misconceptions about methadone treatment, the science behind it has been around for almost 50 years and has been proven to be the safest way for patients to leave their opioid addiction behind.

Medicines like methadone or buprenorphine (Suboxone®) help relieve the symptoms of withdrawal and are dispensed to patients on a daily basis with every visit to the clinic. With progress and gained privileges, patients sometimes are able to earn weekly or monthly take homes of their medication, preventing them from having to travel to the clinic daily. An individualized treatment plan is created for every patient to determine a time frame for when they will be able to reduce their methadone or buprenorphine (Suboxone®) dosage to eventually completely stop taking the medication. This method is effective because the painful and debilitating effects of opioid withdrawal are what usually prevent people with substance use disorders from stopping usage and most often cause relapse. With a medically-monitored treatment plan of safe medications, these painful experiences can be reduced and patients can gradually wean their body off of high doses of opioids until they no longer need them.

Services Include

Hepatitis C Screening and Treatment

Thenewest research conducted by the CDC suggests that the increase of intravenous opioids use has caused the infection rates of hepatitis C or HCV to skyrocket across the nation. HCV is a viral infection that infects the blood and subsequently causes chronic liver disease for about 75-85% of those affected leading to liver failure, cirrhosis, or cancer. Thankfully, there are services available at the Turk St. BAART facility to screen and detect the presence of HCV and provide treatment options for patients who are found to carry the virus. While hepatitis A and B have vaccines, HCV does not. However, it can be treated with antiviral medications that can clear the virus from the body. This treatment will be prescribed by the facility doctor and can be taken anywhere from 12 to 24 weeks or longer. Our facility also provides the screening of HIV for patients who may be at risk.

Community support with moms in mind! I had never been to an opioid treatment clinic before and I was very nervous to do so. I thought I might see something I didn't want to see, or that I'd catch attention as an outsider. And low and behold, my experience was more reminiscent of touring pre-schools for my toddlers than any other life experience to date, especially when I saw the playroom and toddler potty! The Turk street BAART is far more accommodating to mothers than most hospitals! There was a palpable sense of community and support. Thanks for thinking of us moms, and keep up your important work!

I mean ,they are service providers,as far as that goes, they do it well. It's actually MUCH better than it used to be. The staff are all courteous and helpful, some are even warm. . I think the best thing about the clinic now is that they are DOG FRIENDLY.

Great staff. It is what it is as a dosing clinic. I wish they would get new computers. The computers are down every three or four weeks and they are slow. Lines and waits actually aren't that bad. Remember to stay on as low a dose as possible as it takes a lot of time to taper off methadone.

The doctors are great. So are SOME RARE FEW gems in staff. The best thing at this clinic is the childcare. That's the only reason I've stayed. The clinic is gross, always smells and is dirty. The people are just... beyond most of the time. And there are so many unprofessional staff that can really make people feel worse or out down rather than helping. Super inconsistent when it comes to meeting with counselors. Like I said some staff are truly great for being patient and sympathetic and childcare is awesome. One less thing to worry about.
