Monuments is a program created with the sole purpose of helping young men discover the truth about their potential through real-life experience, heuristic (hands on) learning, and entrepreneurial opportunities. Through customized treatment and individual success plans, each young man will find true self-efficacy and life-long change. Arriving at Monuments’ facility gives you an instant feeling of security, serenity and wellness. Located in the mountains outside of Cedar City, Utah and adjacent to Brian Head Ski Resort, Monuments provides an ideal location for a treatment center. Monuments was designed to work congruently across all treatment modalities, creating an atmosphere conducive to ultimate healing and lasting change. Clinically, students receive individual, group, and family therapy from licensed master’s or Ph.D. level therapists. Monuments personalizes the education process so that every student learns at their own pace and capacity. The educational experience is completely customized to ignite a student’s passion for learning. This included traditional academics as well as progressive education. We know that the quality of life is in direct proportion to the quality of the relationships in our life. Monuments utilizes a principle based philosophy to transform the relationships young men have with themselves, and the community. This philosophy was created over years of experience working with young men and their families. Monuments is a therapeutic school and treatment center that serves adolescent young men and their families. Utilizing the benefits of clinical expertise, true horsemanship, progressive education and a community-based living environment, Monuments creates a unique relational experience immersed in relevant learning.

I was a student at this residential treatment center for a year. I was trying to work on my depression and sobriety but within weeks I was getting bullied to the extent that no one should have to go through. It was making me more depressed than ever before Don’t let the owners tell you different this place is very toxic and not a fit for your children Also the response that the owner gives the reviews is generic and is copied and pasted it doesn’t matter what it says it just says thank you for your response they don’t even have the time to read them

I am writing a review through one of my parents accounts. I was a student under Mary Lou and she helped save my life. Since moving back home, my life has been on an upward trend. Two years ago (when I first met Mary Lou) my hopes for school was to get my GED and be done with school. Sitting here today, I just got into my first 4 year college and I'm on track to graduate from my high school while having a steady job and as of today 110 days sober. Treatment is never fun especially for the kid doing it but over all I had an extremely positive experience. I am forever grateful.

I am a former therapist with Monuments. I was not there very long, but I was impressed with their professionalism and experience. More personally, I quickly grew close to many of the people that work there. I believe the therapists are some of the best I've ever worked with. It is a tremendous privilege and responsibility to be the custodians for these students while they are away from home. It is also a position which requires compassion, empathy, and tact. Those who have the resilience to work in the residential environment are not there for the money. They put in long hours, often away from their own children to make a difference in the lives of yours.

I'm currently a student at monuments. I'm not gonna write a huge review about every intricacy in Monuments so I'll give some general information. The culture is painfully negative with students constantly insulting each other over their stuggles. The staff do not stop these instances and upper management doesn't make changes. There is barely any activities which leads to no motivation for students to work towards a goal. With goals there is the short term scoring system. On the day shift, night shift, and at school students receive scoring on a 1 to 5 scale on 5 catagories. On a base level this could be seen as motivation for students to recieve higher scores which would create positive habits. That is at least the intention. There is also the awareness system like safety and targeting which a student will be placed on for largely negative behavior. If placed on an awareness a student is unable to engage in any activities for the rest of the week. This could also be seen as pushing students to behave. The reality of this system is students learn how to be sneaky in various ways such as whispering their insults to each other. Being sneaky is how the majority of students I've seen end up graduating. Long term change is possible but if a student has severe problems and did not go to wilderness it is unlikely to stick. The staff and management rarely are supportive and when called out get incredibly defensive or push the blame. While there are still many more negatives I could write I'll write the few positives. The academics is incredible. Kristy, the academic director, is an incredibly nice person who genuinely helps kids even when they are mean to her. There is also the teacher, Dallas, who encourages students to work hard and is one of the more fair or reasonable staff. Being on the good end of staff is still a low bar considering most are in college or elderly. There are some staff that genuinely care for students and work hard to make them happy and help them, but a large portion refuse to even hear the student out when they are expressing their feeling. This is ironic because expressing our feelings is what many students are trying to learn how to do at monuments. I'm not calling monuments the worst place in the world but for parents reading this, I'd consider almost any other options before sending your child here.

This program saved my child. The way they approached his academics was unparalleled. They helped him understand his executive functioning challenges and that he is capable. The therapeutic approach really truly helped our family unlike anything we had done in our years of other options. He grew in confidence and gained skills in their progressive education. He was able to try out a lot of things but found passion in flying drones. He learned a lot about himself and his relationships through their unique horsemanship piece. He is not in college and doing well so far. My family and I are forever grateful for the entire team at Monuments for getting our son (and us) on the right path.
